Though the Globe writers and editors are technically correct, no one uses "X-Mas" because they're thinking about the X representing Christ. The ones who use that are either Christians who lack discernment in this area and want to be hip to the world... or straight up Jesus haters who don't want to say the word "Christ" in any sense except to maybe use his name as a slur.
